Neil Summers BSc, MA : – Lead ICT Consultant
Neil has over 30 years’ experience in management, working across a range of environments and team sizes in both the public and private sector. His roles have ranged from leading small teams in both research environments and the public sector, to project management of multimillion pound private sector projects.
His initial degree in Chemistry was followed by 25 years in the private sector where he was responsible for leading and developing processes and teams in hazardous environments. This required the provision of internal consultancy and project management services as well as the full range of general management responsibilities for a team of up to 100 employees. During this period, he qualified as a Chartered Chemist and acquired formal certifications in both Supervisory and Safety Management.
For the last 14 years Neil has worked in the ICT sector at both the technical and Head of IT service level. He has obtained processional technical qualifications from Microsoft and Cisco and was a Member of the Chartered Institute for IT. He has also obtained PRINCE2 project management qualifications and experience.
He was awarded a Master of Arts Degree in 2013 for research into the barriers to digital inclusion and the adoption of digital services by the local community. On a regional level one of his current roles is the development of broadband infrastructure in the local community as part of the work of the North Wales Economic Ambition Board; he has contributed to its application to the UK Department for Culture Media and Sports (DCMS) for the development of Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) providing gigabit network capabilities to local business and properties. On a national level he is a member of the Society of Information Technology Management (SOCITM) which is the professional network for digital leaders in the transformation of local, regional and national public services.
He has also run an independent ICT consultancy business for the last 15 years, providing technical IT support to local businesses. This has included providing support for organisations to raise funds from both the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Welsh Governments Rural Community Development Fund (RCDF). Recently he has been involved with providing advice on Cybersecurity as part of a project for a local organisation to obtain the Cyber Essentials certification. Neil is also a member of the North Wales Cyber Security Cluster and has advised organisations on the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
